Phal Phal, Ek Phal, Do Phal

Chiku has been giving false alarms about teething for a few months. He would grab anything in sight, favourite is D's fingers. He would be in such a tearing hurry and urgency to put the stuff in his mouth and hold it between his gums and press hard. We saw and we said, yeah he is teething. But could see no teeth. In the meantim,D was getting frustrated being his teething ring, a false one at that.

A few weeks back we asked B to check if he is teething, as he has completed ten months. She felt his lower gums and immediately said, yes two are coming out any minute. Hence it was few days back, D said she can feel his teeth when the spoon hits the still embedded teeth and making a 'clang' sound. So we were waiting for the d day. Yesterday D said lower two front teeth have made their debut today morning. I wanted to be in the first show when chiku was on googletalk. But try as I might could not see them.So at a correct moment when he opened his mouth wide, D took a snap, which showed his two teeth shining and eager to come out. It is on my desktop now and I keep coming back to look at it even as I am posting this blog.

It is a coincidence that exactly when his teeth have made a debut appearance, he is also able to stand up on his own and remain standing for a good length of time. He sits down after a while, not because I guess he is not able to stand without support any longer, but because he is not seeing any point in standing, when he is not able to be mobile. So he gets down and crawls and picks up stuff and is happy fooling around.

I hear that the upper teeth are waiting in the wings,D can spot a whitening of the gums.

Waiting for the day when he will be a real Bunny!

Chiku the foodie that he is, will be eagerly waiting to actually be able to  bite and enjoy adult food!

Chiku big boy, 10 months old and climbing stairs

Chiku is making new discoveries everyday, and we are discovering lots of new stuff about him. So it is a joyful journey. He has figured out how to climb stairs and was constantly practicing it when he was here recently. You see him one minute and the next he has climbed two steps on the staircase and halting for a minute to see if somebody is noticing him.He is a performer alright.

Let me start at the beginning. He landed with his parents one fine, hot evening for a holiday. His parents decided to take the first floor room.So they left him and next minute he could not see them. They had simply disappeared. Chiku was very perplexed. He is seeing staircase inside a house for the first time and was curious. The next time D was waving to him and climbed up and disappeared. And she came down soon thereafter. So somewhere in his tiny and busy brain he has seen it as not leaving the house and going out . The third time, he wanted to figure it all out for himself. So he climbed one and then a tentative second step. I rushed and took him away.I thought it was risky. No, he did not bawl. Next day, he waited for a good time and this time before I noticed him, he had climbed five steps. I panicked and went and literally plucked him from the steps. No, he did not make a fuss. An hour or so later, D was around and I was away, so she happily went along with him when he was climbing the steps. He stopped at the first landing and waited for applause. He got it in good measure. Then he climbed a few steps, turned around the corner and after that it was a no stop climb to the top. D was mighty pleased and lifted him up and he rewarded her with  a lot of saliva kisses!(jol kiss if you want in our lingo}.

Now that he knew there was interesting stuff upstairs, he was forever wanting to climb up.He does not forget to look around for minute dust or other particles only he can see. He will halt, take it painstakingly in his tiny fingers, feel it, explore it and sometimes try to taste it and then proceed further. He also learnt to look to his left and see the railing and a whole new scenery below and so will halt and view and take in new sigts.
I saw him do the climb sometime later, and I was just too thrilled. The beauty of a small baby, exploring new skills and testing his abilities is endless excitement, everytime. The wonder that the baby has scaled new heights, is remaining with me still.

Kaalu mulachudutu!
