Shastra- An annul event in IIT - It is ISO 9001 certified

IIT Chennai has two events in their annual calender which are eagerly awaited by college students in Chennai and elsewhere in the country.Saarang and Shastra. The former for the aamjanta and the later for the techsavvy, who eat, drink and work on technology.
The preparations for both start almost a year ahead of the scheduled dates and the organising committee fans out all over the city to get sponsors. It gets lapped up and late entrants have to wait for the next year's event if they are lucky( and of course if they are around still)
I knew this much but the recent information that Shastra is the only iso 9001-2000 certified event was something new.I have a strong association with iso 9001 and my eyes will immediately latch on to this wherever i go.I should have guessed, as starting a well one year in advance gives a clue about the organisation, systems and processes that go into it.And that is iso 9000 for you simplified!
I have known a well known hairstylist in Anna nagar put up a bill board that his shop is iso 9001 certified!I have known a few Insurance agents who have got themselves certified as iso 9001 professionals.Hence when offices/departments/shops and individuals can aspire for this branding, events follow naturally.
Yes this event is on now in IIT Chenai for the interested and curious.

you know I was surprised to see that the Chinese temple near our house in Brickfields in K.L. was ISO 9001 certified. I never knew that temple could get that certificate. It was written that it was based on cleanliness, maintaining the chinese culture, and passing on the heritage etc etc. I wonder if any of our temples could get that certificate and maintain the cleanliness and the orderliness in the 'darshan'

systems processes and orderliness have never been the usp of our temples.atleast the temples we have visited.Sanctity of the place ,its tradition and sthala puranam are in high esteem, never mind that the prakaram is strewn with dirt and rubbish. Was quite shocked at the state of disrepair at chidambaram temple.Yes i think we should have a rethink that cleanliness, systems on the one hand and the sanctity, sthala puranam on the other can coexist. In fact they should.
Now in chennai many schools have gone in for iso certification.recently there was a seminar where padmini from vidya mandir presented a paper on the relevance of iso certification for schools.
